Neighborhood Games

Summertime was always great for me as a child. I had a bunch of neighbors who were my age and my neighbors, my brother, and I all used to get together for some neighborhood games. We played every game imaginable, from football, basketball, baseball, and kickball, to catch, scooter races, swimming, tag, capture the flag, manhunt, and adventures through the woods.

My summer days consisted of me waking up, eating breakfast, then running outside to play games with all the kids on my block. We would play all day until when the sun started to go down, our parents would call us in for dinner. After playing all day, you would think we would be exhausted, but that was never the case. There were nights where we would go back outside and play manhunt or go for a night swim. It never mattered what we played, as long as we were all together, we had a great time.

Sadly these neighborhood games in the summer came to an end as slowly all of the families in the neighborhood moved away, and those of us who were left all grew up. Recently though, more new families have moved into my neighborhood, and most of them have young children. Every time I walk or drive down my street, I see all of the kids out playing and immediately my mind is flooded with thoughts and memories of my childhood and all of the neighborhood games I used to play. When I have a family of my own, I fully intend on moving into a neighborhood filled with kids so that my children can experience neighborhood games the same way that I did as a child.
